A strip of dark mold along the bottom of the painted cinderblock wall, where equipment had sat against it, led the homeowner to wonder why this one area was worse than the rest.

We explained that poor airflow can encourage moisture to form through condensation on cooler basement surfaces.

After clearing out the equipment, we cleaned the mold from the wall and advised the homeowner to leave some clearance behind the equipment and regularly check relative humidity (RH) readings to monitor and maintain better moisture conditions.

Black mold was growing above the basement slab in a jagged band, indicating water coming into the basement through poorly sealed foundation walls.

The owner wanted an immediate cleanup of the area, but agreed it would be better to address the source of the issue first by providing waterproofing.

We brought in experts to inspect and assess how water was entering the basement before we began the remedial work on the walls.

They discovered that a larger portion of the wall was involved than initially assessed, so additional time and work were required; this allowed the newly installed finishes to remain free from future moisture damage.
